The Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports is a government ministry of Tanzania. The ministry was founded in 2006 by presidential notice, merging extant sections of sports, information, and culture into one functional ministry.
he Ministry of Culture, Arts and Sports was created through Government Announcement No. 782 published in the Government Gazette of November 22, 2021. In carrying out its duties fully, the Ministry is structurally divided into two main areas which are:
i. Management and implementation of sectoral issues
ii. Operations, coordination and management
MANAGEMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF SECTORAL AFFAIRS
This area is implemented by the Department of Cultural Development, the Department of Art Development and the Department of Sports Development in collaboration with the Institutions under those Departments.
OPERATION COORDINATION AND MANAGEMENT
This area is implemented by the Policy and Planning Department, the Administration and Human Resources Department, the Finance and Accounting Division, the Internal Audit Division, the Procurement and Supply Division, the Legal Services Division and the Information and Communication Technology Division as well as Government Communication Unit.
Developing the identity of the Nation by facilitating good access to Information, Promoting Culture and Sports for Social and Economic Development.
DUTIES OF THE MINISTRY
In order to achieve its responsibilities, the Ministry implements Culture and Sports Policies along with its Goals.
CULTURAL DEVELOPMENT POLICY OF 1997
Its objectives:
i. To participate in National Culture activities from Primary, Secondary and Higher Education and ensure that Cultural training is included in the Curriculum and summary and taught in schools and colleges.
ii. To encourage and promote nationalism for our youth and citizens in general.
iii. Encouraging Dignity in National Development.
iv. Strengthening Contribution of costs, Development, Maintenance and Strengthening of Cultural Institutions for the users of these services.
v. Educating the community on various issues related to Culture and how art can be used in the fight against AIDS.
1995 SPORTS DEVELOPMENT POLICY
Its objectives are:
i. To encourage citizens to participate in sports and physical exercises to improve their health.
ii. To ensure that our teams and players participate fully in national and international competitions and games.
iii. Conduct research on Traditional Games with the aim of reviving and developing them.
iv. To strengthen cooperation with other countries in the provision of education for sports and sportsmen.
v. Managing the construction of modern infrastructure in the Sports Industry.
v. Strengthening good governance in sports.
vii. Providing training for sports professionals.
viii. Fighting the AIDS epidemic in sports.
ix. To develop and recognize the talents of young people in sports from an early age.
