AboutInternational Rescue Committee (IRC)
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) helps people affected by humanitarian crises—including the climate crisis—to survive, recover and rebuild their lives.
Founded at the call of Albert Einstein in 1933, the IRC is now at work in over 40 crisis-affected countries as well as communities throughout Europe and the Americas. We deliver lasting impact by providing health care, helping children learn, and empowering individuals and communities to become self-reliant, always seeking to address the inequalities facing women and girls.
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic well-being, and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. These individuals have survived against incredible odds. The IRC works with government bodies, civil society actors, and local volunteers to help them translate their past experiences into assets that are valuable to their new communities.
The IRC office in Silver Spring, Maryland (IRC-SIL) provides opportunities for refugees, asylees, victims of human trafficking, survivors of torture, and other immigrants to thrive in America.
UNFCU Foundation’s grant will support IRC-SIL’s Women’s Employability Program (WEP) which provides specialized employment services to 75 refugee women. The program provides job readiness trainings and job placement services, enabling the women to achieve equitable employment. Participants in the WEP will also have access to other IRC services including case management, youth success programs for their children, and immigration legal services.
